Shukla Dutta, a former India player, was named coach of the country’s U19 women’s football squad on Saturday, ahead of the SAFF Championships in February next year.

Prior to the SAFF Championships in February of next year, former India player Shukla Dutta was named coach of the nation’s U19 women’s football squad on Saturday. An all-female support staff team led by goalkeeping coach Lourembam Ronibala Chanu and former India international Sradhanjali Samantaray will assist Dutta, a former coach of the country’s U17 women’s squad. Early next month in Goa, the Indian squad will start getting ready for the SAFF Championships. “The women’s Under-19 SAFF competition is a significant competition for us. The All India Football Federation acting secretary-general, M Satyanarayan, stated in a statement that “this tournament is a stepping stone for talented players to move to the next level, which is the seniors.”

“It is great to find that we have an all-women technical staff for the U19 women’s team,” Satyanarayan said.

India entered the competition for the fourth time in 2018, winning the championship in 2022 and placing second behind Bangladesh in the competition’s first year.

This year, India had placed third.

Former India captain IM Vijayan presided over a virtual conference to choose the support staff, which was also attended by Satyanarayan, Syed Sabir Pasha, the technical director, and Manoranjan Bhattacharya, the deputy chairman of the technical committee.
