Shubman Gill and the Indian cricket team were both given hefty fines for their individual violations during the World Test Championship final matchup with Australia.

The International Cricket Council issued a severe fine on Rohit Sharma and Team India as a whole after they were defeated by Australia by 209 runs in the World Test Championship final. The Indian team has been penalised the whole amount of its WTC final match fee, the International Cricket Council said on Monday. The decision was made as a result of Rohit and company falling five overs short of the required total.

Australia has also been delayed and will forfeit 80% of the match cost since they are four overs short. “Players are fined 20% of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” states Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Another setback is that Shubman Gill, the India opener, was also penalised 15% of his match fee for expressing discontent. After being given out by Cameron Green for being caught in the slips during India’s second innings, Gill took to Twitter and Instagram to express his anger with the umpire’s decision. With the extra penalties, his match fee will be reduced by a total of 115 percent.
