Novak Djokovic gave an update on his retirement after winning the French Open men’s singles final.

Novak Djokovic dominated the French Open men’s singles final, beating Casper Ruud to claim his unprecedented 23rd Grand Slam championship. He broke Rafael Nadal’s men’s singles record in the process. The Serbian ace was in fantastic form as he won 7(7)-6(1) 6-3 7-5.

“Of course, the journey isn’t over yet.” I feel like, you know, if I’m winning slams, why even consider quitting a career that has already lasted 20 years? So I’m still motivated and encouraged to play my best tennis in these competitions, you know, Grand Slams. Those, I believe, will be remembered the most in the history of our sport,” he remarked.

The victory also brought Djokovic back to the top of the ATP rankings, unseating Carlos Alcaraz. The young Spaniard fell to Djokovic in the semi-finals of the French Open and is currently ranked second, ahead of Daniil Medvedev, Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic spoke about his background and complimented his mother after winning his 23rd Grand Slam championship. “My upbringing was probably different than that of the majority of the other players in my generation.” Going back to the 1990s, when I was four or five years old, and we had a few of wars,” Djokovic remarked at a news conference after winning his third French Open championship in straight sets over Norway’s Casper Ruud.

“Serbia was under embargo. I was unable to travel to a number of junior events. So there was a lot of difficulty, and it was a really difficult time in my nation for everyone. My family was on a tight budget. My parents, however, chose to support me in my ambition of being a professional tennis player and eventually winning Wimbledon and becoming world number one.
