Shikhar Dhawan sits on the bench, with Shubman Gill possibly benefiting the most from his absence from the national squad.

Shikhar Dhawan, one of the most reliable performers for India in white-ball cricket, is on the bench, with younger players favoured by national team selection. Dhawan recently led the Indian squad on a trip in Sri Lanka. But he is now failing to make the squad in any of the three formats. In an interview, Dhawan discussed his exile while also expressing gratitude to Shubman Gill, the man who eventually replaced him.

When it comes to white-ball cricket, Dhawan is still one of India’s best openers. His ICC record speaks loudly about the lineup he has assembled over the years. However, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan are currently battling for opening positions in T20Is and ODIs.

Dhawan discussed his exile in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia for the latter’s YouTube channel.

“I’m not a member of the team.” I was leading the Indian team when I was playing. I’m no longer there; I was dropped. Shubman is doing really well, but I had a couple of bad series and was dropped. But I can’t feel sad about it. But I don’t consider it. ‘Whatever God has planned for me, it’s for my good,’ I think. So I don’t feel horrible about it,” Dhawan explained.

“You might be the best in your area and still feel insecure. “So, what’s the point of being the first batter?” remarked the opening batter.

The southpaw also discussed his record in ICC events, indicating that the level of cricket in such games is far higher than in bilateral matches.

“I have a good record in ICC tournaments.” In such competitions, there is no change in commitment level. My method has always been the same. In ICC competitions, I believe the wickets are considerably better.

“They are played on natural grounds with true wickets.” “In bilaterals, you don’t always get true wickets,” he explained.

Dhawan recently led the Punjab Kings to a thrilling victory over the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He’d like to impress the selectors by putting up a consistent performance in the T20 league.
