A backpack containing a computer and two USB memory sticks containing police security preparations for the Paris Olympic Games was taken.

Police sources claimed on Tuesday that a bag containing a computer and two USB memory sticks with police security plans for the Olympic Games in Paris was taken on Monday night from a train at the city’s Gare du Nord station.

According to the police, who were corroborated by BFM television, the bag belonged to an engineer from Paris City Hall. He said that he had placed the bag in the luggage compartment above his seat.

He chose to switch trains because his original train was running late, and that’s when he learned about the theft.

The engineer claimed that his work computer and two USB sticks carried critical information, specifically the municipal police’s Olympic security plans.

The regional transport police are investigating.

When AFP phoned Paris City Hall, no one was available to comment immediately.
During the Olympics, which begin on July 26, 2,000 local police officers will be deployed, with a total of approximately 35,000 security troops scheduled to be on duty each day.
