Ravichandran Ashwin commented on the CSK captaincy shift, which saw Ruturaj Gaikwad replace MS Dhoni at the helm.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will take over as captain of the Chennai Super Kings after former India captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) before of the new season in 2024. As an era ended, cricket fans were devastated by the decision, even if it was inevitable. Veteran Indian and former captain of CSK Ravichandran Ashwin, though, doesn’t believe the important decision was made hastily. The Rajasthan Royals off-spinner speculates that Dhoni would have discussed the adjustment with Ruturaj after the previous year’s election.
“I am familiar with MS Dhoni. He maintains leadership of the team. It never leaves his thoughts, the team’s welfare. To make amends, he gave Jadeja the captain’s armband two years prior. It is now with Ruturaj, thanks to him. This was a decision that had to be made. It was still unclear who and how.”
According to Ashwin, Dhoni would have told Ruturaj about the change in captaincy last season. And so, once the new season got underway, the opening batter would have been primed to lead.
“Until yesterday, Ruturaj would not have believed that his only responsibility was to bat. I’ve known MS Dhoni for ages. He must have told Ruturaj last year when eating dinner with the kids in his room; if that’s what happened, I wouldn’t be shocked. “You’re going to be the one in charge, brother.” You possess all these abilities. Ruturaj has been informed well in advance by Dhoni Night that “I will be there, don’t worry.”
In addition to showing admiration for Gaikwad, Ashwin also suggested that Dhoni and Gaikwad had calm, collected dispositions by comparing their respective personas.
“Ruturaj is incredibly cool and collected; I know him. He is an incredibly decent person. The off-spinner expressed his happiness for the youthful opener, saying, “I am very happy for him.”
