Najam Sethi has withdrawn from the race to become the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), claiming a political dispute between the government coalition’s key parties over the nomination.

Najam Sethi, the temporary head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) who took over when former Pakistani batter Ramiz Raja stepped down last year, has withdrawn from the campaign to become the PCB’s next chairman.

The 75-year-old writer turned cricket administrator revealed his decision on Twitter late Monday night, citing a political dispute between the government coalition’s main parties over the nomination. He claimed that he does not want to “be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif,” and that the volatility and unpredictability of the fight are detrimental to the PCB.
