The German Football Association announced on Friday that head coach of the German national team Julian Nagelsmann has signed a contract extension that would keep him in place until at least the 2026 World Cup.

Julian Nagelsmann has secured his job as head coach of the German national team by signing a contract extension that will keep him in charge until the end of the 2026 World Cup. This decision comes after Nagelsmann took over for Hansi Flick in September 2023, initially on a short-term contract that was due to expire after the European Championships in the summer 2024.

Nagelsmann, 36, has already made a huge impression as head coach, winning three of his six matches, including important victory against France and the Netherlands in March. His leadership has not only resulted in on-field success, but it has also created a sense of excitement and expectation among fans and players alike about what is to come.
Nagelsmann expressed his devotion and passion for the role, saying, “This is a heartfelt decision.” It’s an honor to be able to train the national team and work with the greatest players in the country.”

He stressed the ability to inspire an entire nation with successful and impassioned performances, citing emotional victories over France and the Netherlands as particularly touching moments. Looking ahead, Nagelsmann underlined his desire to lead the squad to a successful home European Championship and to tackle the challenges of the World Cup with his coaching team.

The decision to extend Nagelsmann’s contract was unanimously approved at a Supervisory Board and Shareholders’ Meeting of the German Football Association (DFB), indicating the confidence and trust placed in him to lead the national team to future success.

Nagelsmann had an impressive coaching record prior to taking over the national team, including a two-year spell at RB Leipzig, when he took the team to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in club history, and a three-year stay at Hoffenheim. Despite speculation and interest from prominent European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain, Nagelsmann’s commitment to the German national team demonstrates his desire to developing talent and reaching greatness on the international scene.
