Shikhar Dhawan has been replaced in India’s One-Day International squad by Shubman Gill.
Shikhar Dhawan, one of the finest opening batters India has had in the last 5-7 years, finds himself in unfamiliar terrain, no longer a part of the Indian squad in any of the three formats. While Dhawan hasn’t played T20Is or Tests for India in a while, he remains an important cog in the ODI squad. However, after a string of underwhelming performances for the national team in the 50-over format, Dhawan was dropped from the squad in ODIs as well.
In an interview with Sports Tak, Dhawan discussed the Indian team’s selection process, claiming that it was a fair decision by the selectors, captain, and coach to choose Shubman Gill over him in the ODI squad. In reality, Dhawan stated that if he were the selector, he would have done the same.
Dhawan was asked how lengthy a rope he would have given himself if he had been the team’s selector or captain.
“I believe Shubman was already playing both formats and performing admirably, both in Tests and T20Is.” If I was competing in more international contests. “If I were the selector, I would have given Shubman a chance,” he said.
When questioned if he would choose Shubman over Shikhar, the southpaw responded, “Yes, I would.”
