Bangladesh’s World Cup and Asia Cup 2023 captain will be Shakib Al Hasan. The BCB made the choice following Tamim Iqbal’s resignation from his post last month.
Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh at the 2019 Asia Cup and World Cup, it was announced on Friday, August 11. Najmul Hasan Papon, head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), made the statement while addressing the media at his Dhaka home.
Shakib will represent Bangladesh in the home ODI series in September in addition to the multi-nation events.
“Shakib Al Hasan is the captain for the Asia Cup, New Zealand series, and World Cup,” Papon stated. On Saturday, August 12, the BCB is anticipated to also reveal the Asia Cup team.
“We’ll talk with him more after he gets back to Bangladesh [from the Lanka Premier League],” His long-term strategy must be known to us. He and I spoke on the phone yesterday. However, it would be preferable if we spoke to him in person as he is currently preoccupied with a franchise league. We will also discuss which format he will continue to run, whether it be all three or just one or two of them, the speaker said.
Shakib, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Litton Das were previously listed by BCB as potential replacements for skipper Tamim Iqbal. There were questions over Shakib’s readiness to captain the Tigers in all three game forms.
“There was never any misunderstanding. I already told you. He is a natural choice. Anyone else qualified to take the helm? But before we hired him, we had to speak with him. Nobody should have a different opinion. The captain is Shakib. He was consistently the best option, said Papon.
