In the Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2024 encounter against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday, Yash Thakur claimed five wickets.
Yash Thakur, in contrast to many others, actually enjoys the weight of expectations. Following Mayank Yadav’s injury collapse, the young bowler K L Rahul of the Lucknow Super Giants saw a match-winning talent in him, and it gave him the motivation he needed to record his first-ever five-wicket haul in the Indian Premier League. After speed leader Yadav departed the pitch in the middle of Sunday night’s encounter against Gujarat Titans due to a side strain, the 25-year-old from Vidarbha found himself squarely in the spotlight. Shubman Gill, the captain of GT, was taken out by Thakur, who returned figures of 5/30.
Along with winning him player of the match accolades, this was his first five-wicket IPL haul. It also enabled his team to defeat Gujarat Titans by 33 runs.
“Mayank has exceptional speed, and his play is remarkable. Speaking of his teammate who has bowled the quickest delivery of this IPL, Thakur remarked, “I know my limitations and I know my strength and I only back my strengths.”
Reporting on Yadav, Thakur stated that his now-famous teammate was doing well.
“You need not worry. Everything is well,” he stated.
Prior to playing cricket, Thakur had desired to be a wicketkeeper. He attributed his game-winning performance to Rahul’s support.
“Maybe this is your day, you can win the match for us,” Rahul bhai (KL) only remarked when Mayank departed the field.
“‘Don’t think much and keep faith in yourself,’ he said.” We’ll not waste time on outside variables like who has what occurred to,” he added, adding that we’ll just concentrate on the controllables.
“The weight of expectations doesn’t worry me. Instead, I’m content when my teammates or the public anticipate me to win games. I take pleasure in having to win games for the squad. In order to confuse the batters, Thakur claimed he mixed up his deliveries and used bouncers and slower balls, which helped him win.
“We adhered to the plan we discussed, knowing that the wicket was slow. We’d stay with the plan even if we were hit for runs. We will succeed, KL assured us.
“The variations, the slower ones, the bouncers I used, I kept getting success,” Thakur said.
Vijay Shankar of GT bemoans the absence of teamwork
In light of the defeat, all-rounder Vijay Shankar of the Gujarat Titans acknowledged that the Shubman Gill-led team was suffering from a lack of teamwork.
Among the lackluster players was Shankar, who scored just 17 of the team’s 130 runs despite behind 163.
“To restrict LSG, we bowled pretty well this match, and we batted really well as a team last time (against Punjab Kings, scoring 199). Occasionally, it’s just a group issue.
“We’ll start winning when we can bring it up in a single game, both together. At the press conference following the game, Shankar stated, “That is what we missed in the last two games.”
“We’re doing our best effort. We still have a long tournament ahead of us, so it’s not the end of the road,” he continued.
