After Delhi’s Ranji Trophy opener against Puducherry ended in a crushing loss, Yash Dhull was relieved of his captaincy.

On Monday, only hours after Delhi’s side lost badly to Puducherry in their Ranji Trophy opener, Yash Dhull was relieved of his captaincy. Himmat Singh, the veteran batter, will now captain the team starting on January 12 when they travel to Jammu and Kashmir. Dec. 2022 saw the appointment of U-19 World Cup captain Dhull to lead the team in an effort to turn around Delhi’s failing fortunes. With an average of 43.88, Dhull has amassed 1185 runs since making his debut in February 2022. In the nine-wicket home loss to Puducherry, Dhull scored two and twenty-three. Earlier in the season, the 21-year-old had also captained the team in white-ball competitions.

“Yash has skill as a player, but his form is lacking. He was removed of captaincy duties because we wanted him to succeed as a batter. Himmat is a senior member of our team and has performed admirably. Rajan Manchanda, joint secretary of the DDCA, informed PTI that “he will captain the side.”

Due to his recent struggles against quick bowlers, Dhull was hesitant to start the innings.
In the previous season, while Himmat was absent, Delhi defeated Mumbai in a historic victory. Since making his debut in 2017, the 27-year-old has participated in 22 first-class matches.

Season after season, the team succeeds in attracting unwelcome attention. Veteran athletes Nitish Rana and Dhruv Shorey relocated to UP and Vidarbha, respectively, from Delhi last year.

The team will not be traveling to Jammu with senior pacers Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini, who was included in the India A side to play the England Lions.

It has been gathered that Ishant, the seasoned bowler, will be restricted to playing for Delhi at home.

The Ranji Trophy was last won by Delhi, who had won it seven times, in the 2007–08 season.
