WI vs ENG: In ODI history, Sam Curran unintentionally sets a record for the most runs let up by an England bowler

Curran broke Harmison’s 2006 record of 97 runs in 10 overs against Sri Lanka with his 98 runs in 9.5 overs, becoming the most runs ever let up by an England bowler in One-Day Internationals.

During Sunday’s first One-Day International against the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, England’s T20 World Cup 2022 hero Sam Curran had a dismal performance.

With his 98 runs in 9.5 overs, the left-arm pacer broke Steve Harmison’s 2006 record of 97 runs in 10 overs against Sri Lanka to become the most runs conceded by an English bowler in the format.

West Indies managed to surpass the 326-run goal, which is their second-highest ODI run-chase history, thanks in large part to Curran’s final two overs, which he delivered at the 45th and 49th of the innings, for 15 and 19 runs, respectively.

In the 45th over, Romario Shepherd and Shai Hope hit Curran for four and six, respectively, before Hope punished the 25-year-old with three sixes in the 49th over.

Curran had a fantastic day at bat earlier in the day, and his 38 from 26 balls was crucial to England reaching 325 in 50 overs. His eight-wicket partnership with Brydon Carse (66 runs off 38 balls) provided a late burst of momentum for the visiting side.

Curran, however, failed to duplicate his batting exploits with the ball and finished with an unimpressive bowling analysis of 9.5-0-98-0. Curran is coming off a disappointing World Cup performance, where he took just two wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 8.07.
