News Sources told on Thursday that Rahul Dravid is unlikely to extend his contract as head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, with National Cricket Academy (NCA) chairman VVS Laxman likely to take over.

Sources told  on Thursday that Rahul Dravid is unlikely to extend his contract as head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, with National Cricket Academy (NCA) chairman VVS Laxman likely to take over. Sources have verified that Dravid, whose contract expired at the end of the ODI World Cup last week, has decided not to continue as India’s head coach. India was defeated by Australia in the World Cup final last week.

Former India batter and Dravid’s ex-teammate Laxman is also expected to take over as head coach, according to sources.

Laxman has been selected as the designated head coach for the five-match T20I series against Australia, which begins later this week.

After India’s campaign ended prematurely in the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2021, Dravid—who had previously led the NCA—was named head coach of the team.

India advanced to the finals of both the ODI World Cup and the ICC World Test Championship under Dravid’s leadership, however both times the side was defeated by Australia. They also advanced to the T20 World Cup semifinals the previous year, losing to eventual winners England.

But with Dravid leading the way, India captured the Asia Cup earlier this year.

Following the decisive loss to Australia, Dravid refused to answer questions regarding his future.

“I’ve never given it much thought. I just got done with a game. There was no time for me to consider this or to think back on it. Indeed, Dravid had stated at the media conference following the game, “I will when I get the time to do that.”

Later on Thursday, India and Australia play their first Twenty20 International match at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag.
