Vaughan’s ‘Shubman vs KL Rahul’ remark triggers top-order debate

Following the squad announcement of Team India for the WTC final, Michael Vaughan made a huge remark on Top Order.

On Tuesday, the India squad for the finals of the World Test Championship was announced. Ajinkya Rahane was included in the squad, while Surya Kumar Yadav was excluded. Rahane had been away from the test team since January last year. Since then, he has been part of the Mumbai team in the Ranji Trophy, and he is currently representing Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing season of the IPL 2023, where he has produced some brilliant performances at incredible strike rates.
His inclusion in the team came following the unavailability of Shreyas Iyer. He is highly expected to be a part of the Indian playing 11 for the game, but my captain of the England cricket team, Michael Vaughan, has made a surprising remark on the opening order of India.
Vaughan told cricbuzz that “the only change that they could make in English conditions is that KL Rahul plays the moving ball better than Shubman Gill. Shubman’s a tremendous young player, but you’ve got to win that one game of cricket. Forget history; it’s about picking the best XI to win the World Test Championship. When it’s straight, Shubman is a dangerous player, but I’ve seen a few little technical deficiencies. When the ball moves, he takes his hand a little bit too far towards the ball. He snickers quite consistently.
“I’m not sure they will do that (replace Shubman with KL Rahul) because I’m not in the selection room. But don’t pick a team based on what’s next or who’s going to play in the West Indies. “You’ve got to pick the team for that one game of cricket.”
KL Rahul was a part of India’s team in the first two test matches played against Australia in the border Gavaskar Trophy. After this, in the next two matches, he got replaced by Shubhman Gill.
