Prior to the IPL 2025 auction, it has been reported that the board may decide to accept five retention and one Right to Match option each team after taking into account several recommendations from team owners.

In anticipation of the BCCI’s 93rd Annual General Meeting on Sunday, the IPL Governing Council is expected to meet on Saturday night. It will mostly be interested in the ruling regarding the retention rule. The board may decide to accept five retention and one Right to Match option each team ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, according to information obtained after reviewing several proposals from team owners.

In July, the board convened with the owners of all ten IPL teams to get a consensus on retention. This was necessary because prominent teams, like as the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, needed to make important decisions on the auction, including the selection of stars like MS Dhoni.

Together with the location, the big auction’s date—which is most likely to fall around the second week of November—may also be revealed.

Whether the choices about the retention and auction will be made public following the day’s meeting or after being tabled in the AGM on Sunday for a thorough discussion was not immediately clear.Prior to the competition in IPL 2025, a massive auction will take place, giving the majority of teams the opportunity to keep a few players on their roster. On Saturday, the auction’s variable laws and retention count are expected to be finalized.

Similar to the February 2022 auction and the December 2023 and 2024 auctions, the upcoming IPL mega sale is most likely to take place across two days.

The IPL clubs were allowed to keep up to four players from the most recent super auction, which took place in 2022. As the three-year cycle draws to a close, different teams have different ideas about how many players should be retained. Some teams think that the current retention cap of four or five players is sufficient, while others support a bigger cap of up to eight players.
