The Super Gillies decided to bat first and built a massive 217 for five, riding Pradosh’s half-century before Sanjay Yadav’s last flourish.

Pradosh Ranjan Paul’s swashbuckling 88 helped the four-time champion Chepauk Super Gillies defeat Salem Spartans by 52 runs on Tuesday at the Sri Ramakrishna College Ground in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

The Super Gillies decided to bat and built a massive 217 for five off of Pradosh’s half-century before Sanjay Yadav added a flourish with an unbeaten 31.

When chasing a massive mark, Spartans never appeared to be in the hunt and continued losing wickets while attempting to match the asking pace. Early in the chase, spinners B. Aparajith and B. Rocky destroyed the Spartans’ top order, taking two wickets apiece.

In the 19th over, Mohammed Adnan Khan, who came in at number nine, delighted the audience with an undefeated 47 (15b, 1×4, 5×6) as he raced into bowler R. Rohit and smashed him for four sixes. For the Spartans, though, it was too little, too late.

Earlier, Super Gillies skipper N. Jagadeesan (35) and Pradosh gave the team a rousing start by scattering the Spartans’ attack while putting up a 91-run partnership. The elegant Pradosh produced a striking hit that was full of strong sweeps and precise late-cuts.

Pradosh attacked left-arm spinner Ganesh Moorthi after hitting a couple boundaries off the pacers, swiping him past midwicket before lofting him over long-on to help CSG end the PowerPlay with 64 runs scored.

The 22-year-old sliced Mokit Hariharan to the third-man boundary after reaching his half-century late.

Tanwar, the captain of the Spartans, made matters worse for his team by bowling four no-balls in the last over while Sanjay Yadav smacked him for two sixes and a boundary, scoring 26 runs.
