South Africa has confirmed that it will tour Bangladesh for two tests in October

South Africa will be the first side to tour Bangladesh for a bilateral cricket series following the protests and unrest that brought down the Sheikh Hasina-led administration.

The two-match Test series scheduled to start on October 21 in Bangladesh has been announced by Cricket South Africa (CSA). The board also stated that the series roster will be revealed later on Monday. The South African Cricketers’ Association representative, the operations manager, the team security manager, the safety and security consultant, and others recently carried out a security assessment, according to a statement from CSA.

Accordingly, based on the team’s recommendations following an in-loco inspection visit to Bangladesh, the CSA has now approved the series. After the demonstrations and unrest that led to the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina-led administration, South Africa will become the first team to tour Bangladesh for a bilateral cricket series.
After instability brought on by anti-government protests in Bangladesh, the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup was rescheduled for the United Arab Emirates on August 20. An temporary administration led by Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus is currently in charge of the nation after Hasina fled to India.

The South Africa Test team will land in Dhaka on October 16 in accordance with the tour schedule, and they will play their first Test match against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, from October 21 to 25.

Following that, the two teams will go to Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium for the second game, which is slated to take place from October 29 to November 2. Sixth spot is presently held by South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.They’ve played six games, winning two, losing three, and drawing one. South Africa must win at least five of its remaining six WTC games to qualify for next year’s final at Lord’s.
