Snubbed Indian Star on WI Tour: “No Communication From BCCI”

For the West Indies tour, Abhimanyu Easwaran did not receive a clearance from the BCCI selection committee. Hasn’t even gotten a justification for the rejection, though.

Many fans and former cricket players were surprised to see some First-Class performers’ names absent when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the Test and ODI squads for the trip of the West Indies. None of the predicted candidates, including Sarfaraz Khan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Priyank Panchal, made the squad. Easwaran said that even though the board has not communicated with him about the domestic trio’s absence, the selectors have not provided any public justifications.

When asked if the BCCI had contacted him to discuss areas where he needed to improve, Easwaran responded, “No, I have not had any communication so far.”

The Bengal hitter responded that there will always be things he can improve on, regardless of whether he is selected, when asked whether there are areas of his game he can work on to get better.

No matter if I get picked or not, that is there. I want to develop as a cricket player. Every day I strive to improve and set higher standards. No matter which team I play for—club, state, India A, East Zone, or the Indian squad—selection is something I have no control over, but I can concentrate on improving every day to help my team. That’s how I’ve always thought, and that’s all I want to concentrate on. Basically, I don’t want to give up. I just want to keep putting my efforts into getting better,” he declared.

The Duleep Trophy, held in Bengaluru from June 28 to July 16, will see the 27-year-old captain the East Zone team. In order to impress the national selectors and earn a berth on the senior team, he will be hoping to put on a display during the competition.
