Shubman Gill has been selected captain of the Gujarat Titans for the IPL 2024 season.

Shubman Gill has been named Gujarat Titans captain, following the franchise’s confirmation of Hardik Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians via trade. Gill, who won the Orange Cap earlier this year, will succeed Hardik, who coached GT for two seasons, winning the IPL in 2022 and finishing second in 2023.

“Over the last two years, Shubman Gill has grown in stature and standing at the highest level of the game.” We’ve seen him evolve not only as a hitter, but also as a cricket leader. On the field, his contributions have helped the Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team to a successful campaign in 2022 and a good run in 2023. His maturity and skill are evident in his on-field performance, and we are tremendously delighted to begin on a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm,” said Vikram Solanki, Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket.

“As Gujarat Titans’ first captain, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that have resulted in one IPL championship and one appearance in the final.” He has recently stated a desire to rejoin his former squad, the Mumbai Indians. We appreciate his decision and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

“As the Gujarat Titans’ first captain, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that resulted in one IPL championship and one appearance in the final.” He has since indicated a desire to rejoin his original squad, the Mumbai Indians. We respect his decision and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Gill was the leading scorer in the 2017 IPL, with 890 runs at an average of 59.33 from 17 matches – the second-highest of all time behind Virat Kohli’s tally of 973 – and with a prolific record in 2023 behind him, he seemed the most apparent contender for the role. Kane Williamson was also mentioned, but the franchise believed that who better to represent them than the future face of Indian cricket and a captain in the making.

“I am delighted and proud to take over as Captain of the Gujarat Titans, and I am grateful to the franchise for putting their faith in me to lead such a fine team.” We’ve had two outstanding seasons, and I’m excited to lead the club with our dynamic brand of cricket,” Gill said of his elevation.

Hardik’s return represents a sincere reunion with MI family members Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and the entire team. He rose to popularity with MI before making his India debut in 2016. Hardik Pandya, India’s top all-rounder, was instrumental in MI’s four IPL titles from 2015 to 2021.

“We are ecstatic to have Hardik back home. We are having a wonderful reunion with our Mumbai Indian family. We’re enthusiastic for what the future holds for Hardik and the Mumbai Indians. He’s come a long way from being a young scouted prospect of the franchise to now becoming a star for team India “said Nita Ambani.
