Shakib played in the Global T20 Canada league at the time of the incident in issue.

Shakib Al Hasan is one of 147 persons charged in connection with an alleged murder during the Bangladesh riots in early August, according to an officer at Dhaka’s Adabor police station.

Rafiqul Islam, the deceased Mohammed Rubel’s father, filed the case on Thursday regarding the death of a textile worker.

Shakib is not just Bangladesh’s most famous cricketer, but he is also a former member of parliament for the Awami League, which was in power in Bangladesh until earlier this month. The accused include Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s prime minister at the time of the protests, as well as numerous previous party leaders and parliamentarians.

Some news reports says with an officer who confirmed that Shakib is either the 27th or 28th accused in the first information report (FIR).

However, Shakib was not in Bangladesh on August 5 or throughout the rallies that led to Hasina’s resignation, after which she fled the country. Shakib was in Canada at the time, leading the Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the Global T20 Canada competition, which was contested in Brampton. Prior to that, Shakib was in the United States playing Major League Cricket until mid-July, then he flew to Canada to play from July 26 to August 9.

The Daily Star said that “the case statement mentions that the complainant alleged that some of the accused as per instruction directly or indirectly from some others opened fire while hundreds of students including Rubel were protesting at Ring Road in Adabor area on August 5” . Rubel was injured during the shooting and died at a hospital two days later, according to the FIR.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has estimated that approximately 400 people died during the violence, which occurred between July 16 and August 4, although some accounts put the figure at over 650, with many people missing.

After the Awami League collapsed, Bangladesh instituted an interim administration and made major changes to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, whose head is none other than former national captain Faruque Ahmed.

Shakib, a native of Magura, was elected to the parliament in January of this year after winning the general elections. He is taking on Pakistan in the Rawalpindi Test right now.
