Shaheen Afridi became the second Pakistan player, after father-in-law Shahid Afridi, to collect two five-wicket hauls in ODI World Cups, but his efforts were in vain as his team lost to Australia in the Cricket World Cup 2023 match on Friday. Afridi concluded with 5 for 54, which was a big reason for Pakistan limiting Australia to a score of less than 400 after openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh produced a magnificent start. This was Shaheen’s second five-wicket haul, cementing his place among a select group of cricketers in the competition’s history.

Australia defeated Pakistan by 62 runs in Bengaluru on Friday, thanks to centuries from openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh.
Australia’s total of 367-9 was built around Warner’s 163 with Marsh getting 121 on his 32nd birthday. Pakistan were undone by poor bowling and fielding, which resulted in Warner being dropped after only ten runs.
“It was awesome,” remarked man of the match Warner. “For us to go out there and put in a performance and a score on the board like that is very pleasing.”
Leg-spinner Adam Zampa then ripped through the middle-order with figures of 4-53 as Pakistan were bowled out for 305 in 45.3 overs, leaving both teams with two wins.
As Pakistan required 168 from the last 20 overs, Mohammad Rizwan (46) and Saud Shakeel (30) combined 57 for the fourth wicket, but Pat Cummins bowled Shakeel while Zampa dismissed Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed (26) and Mohammad Nawaz (14) to end their fight.
