Sania Mirza’s tennis career comes to an end after a first-round defeat in Dubai.


Sania Mirza, 36, retired from competitive tennis with six Grand Slam titles, including three women’s doubles titles with Swiss legend Martina Hingis.

On Tuesday, Sania Mirza played her final match as a professional tennis player at the WTA Dubai Duty Free Championships, bringing an end to a glorious chapter and an illustrious career in Indian sport. Sania, one of India’s greatest tennis players, ended her illustrious career with a first-round defeat in Dubai on Tuesday, losing in straight sets to American partner Madison Keys. In exactly one hour, Sania and Keys were defeated 4-6 0-6 by the formidable Russian duo of Vernokia Kudermetova and Liudmila Samsonova. Veronika, 25, is ranked 11th in singles and fifth in doubles, while Liudmila is ranked 13th in doubles.
