Rohit Sharma is supported by a legend from Sri Lanka to play in another World Cup, but there is one “Virat Kohli condition.”

Since the team’s 10-wicket loss to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, Rohit Sharma has not participated in a Twenty20 International match for India.

Legendary cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka thinks India captain Rohit Sharma might play in another World Cup. When India competes in the upcoming World Cup, a T20 mega event that will be held by the USA and West Indies in June 2024, Rohit, who is currently 36 years old, will have gained one year of experience. If Rohit puts in the same kind of effort to improve his fitness as Virat Kohli, Muralitharan is sure that he will play in the competition. The former spinner went on to say that Rohit must be considering participating in the World Cup in 2019.

“You observe his performance in the ODI World Cup. His kind of batting at strike rates and the starts he gave. He never lost a competition. Not only is he young—he’s only 36. If he maintains his level of fitness like Virat, he can play in another World Cup,” Muralitharan told news outlets.

“Rohit batted in ODIs with a strike rate of 130, which is respectable for T20. He’s a skilled athlete. After 35, your fitness level just requires more effort. He’ll play if he feels like it. I firmly believe he will participate in another World Cup. He said, “He’s thinking about it.”

It is noteworthy to mention that Rohit has not participated in a Twenty20 International match for India following the team’s 10-wicket loss to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal.

While Rohit’s outstanding performance in ODI cricket has kept him in the running for the T20 mega event in 2024, it is undeniable that the Indian cricket team is trying to incorporate as many young players as possible in the T20I squad.
