Rohit Sharma is poised to surpass Sachin Tendulkar to reach an elite milestone

In ODI cricket, Rohit Sharma needs 175 more runs to get 10,000 runs.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian squad, is still regarded as one of the game’s most dangerous batters. Since being promoted to opener, Rohit has proven to be a great match-winner, leading India to several significant victories. In order to overtake all-time cricket greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Ricky Ponting, Rohit will have his sights set on a significant milestone as the Indian squad prepares for the West Indies ODI assignment.

Rohit, who currently has 9825 runs for India in 50-over cricket, is only 175 runs away from reaching 10,000 runs in ODIs. If he achieves the milestone in the three-match ODI series against West Indies, he will be the second fastest to the number.

Virat Kohli tops the chart with 10,000 runs in ODI cricket in just 205 innings. Tendulkar, Ganguly, and Ponting required 259, 263, and 266 innings, respectively, to attain the milestone.

Currently, Rohit has played 236 ODI innings. While he won’t be able to overcome Kohli on the list, the Hitman has time on his side in terms of the second slot.

Quickest to 10,000 runs in ODI cricket:

  1. Virat KOHLI: 205
  2. Sachin TENDULKAR: 259
  3. Sourav GANGULY: 263
  4. Ricky PONTING: 266
  5. Jacques KALLIS: 272
  6. MS DHONI: 273
  7. Rahul DRAVID: 287

Rohit averages 48.64 runs per game in ODIs for India. In India’s 50-over format, he has 30 centuries and 48 fifties to his credit. Given that India will host World Cup games this year, the seasoned batsman would be looking to maintain his recent success at the plate.
