The injured Axar Patel was replaced in the Indian Cricket World Cup 2023 roster by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Axar sustained the injury during the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 game against Bangladesh, and the all-around player was unable to make it back in time for the event. For the just finished ODI series against Australia, Ashwin was a member of the Indian cricket team and ended up capturing four wickets in the two games. Ashwin is India’s third option for spinners in the competition, along with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. India will face Australia in their opening match of the competition on October 8.

“India’s 15-person team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has had to undergo a last-minute change. Axar Patel had a left quadriceps strain during India’s Asia Cup Super Four match against Bangladesh, and he was unable to make a full recovery in time for the World Cup. As a result, the spin-bowling all-rounder missed the Asia Cup championship game. He has been replaced by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who impressed in his first ODI series against Australia, where he picked up four wickets in two games, according to the ICC website.

Ashwin, who played in the 2011 and 2015 tournaments, will be participating in his third World Cup.
