On Wednesday, the Gujarat Titans defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 3 wickets in an IPL 2024 game played in Jaipur.

Shubman Gill’s excellent half-century, combined with brilliant finishing by Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan, enabled Gujarat Titans (GT) win a gripping three-wicket encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on Wednesday. GT is now in sixth place in the rankings, with three victories and three losses, totalling six points. RR has experienced their first loss after four wins, but they remain in first place with eight points. In the 197-run chase, Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan started cautiously, scoring few fours and sixes.

GT was at 44/0 after six powerplay overs, with Sai (21) and Gill (23) unbeaten at the crease. GT scored 14 runs off Avesh Khan’s final over of the powerplay, including a four and a six from Gill.

GT made 50 runs in 6.5 overs.

Gill and Sai’s 64-run partnership came to an end when pacer Kuldip Sen bowled him for 35 in 29 balls, including three fours and one six. GT finished 64/1 in 8.2 overs.

GT was 76/1 midway through the innings, with Gill (36) and Matthew Wade (4) joining him. Rain forced the contest to be shortened.

After the rain, Rajasthan made a comeback in the game, with Kuldip continuing his amazing performance. He dismissed Matthew Wade (4) and Abhinav Manohar (1) in the eleventh over, reducing GT to 79/3 in 10.4 overs.

Vijay Shankar, an out-of-form all-rounder, joined Gill in the middle and led the side to 100 runs in 12.4 overs.

Gill scored fifty in 35 balls, including two fours and two sixes.

Just as it appeared that the duo had formed a partnership and were about to attack, Yuzvendra Chahal cleaned out Shankar for 16 in 10 balls. GT was 111/4 after 14 overs.

Following Vijay’s dismissal, Gill targeted RR’s spin combination of Ravichandran Ashwin and Chahal, smashing them for two fours each. However, he was stumped by Sanju Samson, and Chahal had the last laugh. Gill scored 72 from 44 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

GT scored 133/5 in 15.2 overs, requiring 64 from 28 balls.

Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia, two hard-hitting hitters, were the new faces on the pitch. In the 17th over, they scored 17 runs, including a four by Tewatia and a four and six by Shahrukh. The equation was reduced to 42 runs required in 18 balls.

Kuldeep’s penultimate over was costly, as Rahul and Rashid struck him for three fours and he conceded several runs due to wides/no balls. It reduced the equation to fifteen in six balls.

Avesh’s final over began with Rashid’s boundary, followed by a double and another four, reducing the lead to five runs in three balls. Tewatia was run out for 22 in 11 balls, with three fours, on the last ball, while trying his third run. Two runs were needed on the penultimate ball. GT was 195/7 after 19.5 overs.

Rashid blasted a boundary on the final ball to give his team a three-wicket triumph. He finished on 24* in 11 balls, with four boundaries.

Kuldip (3/41) and Chahal (2/43) were GT’s best bowlers.

Earlier, Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson’s scorching 130-run partnership propelled Rajasthan Royals (RR) to 196/3 against Gujarat Titans in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 encounter at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday.

Parag led the way for RR with a fantastic 76 off 48 deliveries, while captain Samson hit an important unbeaten 68 in 38 deliveries.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler opened the batting for RR. Jaiswal regained his groove as he faced the GT bowlers, scoring boundaries in every over to give RR an incredible start.

Umesh Yadav struck immediately, removing the dangerous opener Jaiswal for 24 runs in the fifth over of the match. Captain Sanju Samson then came out to bat and began the scoring with back-to-back boundaries.

Shubman Gill brought Rashid Khan in the powerplay, and the Afghan star worked his magic to dismiss Jos Buttler for 8 runs. After Rajasthan suffered an early setback with the wickets of Jaiswal and Buttler, Samson and Riyan Parag helped to steady the ship.

Following the top-order collapse, Parag and Samson came to RR’s rescue once more, completing a 50-plus run stand in 39 deliveries.

Parag reached his half-century in 34 balls thanks to a stunning maximum. Spencer Johnson was on the receiving end of Samson’s 16-run blitz, which included two boundaries and one maximum.

Parag and Samson forged a 100-run partnership as they kept going for RR. Samson scored his third 50 of the season.

Vijay Shankar made a wonderful catch at the boundary to dismiss Parag for 76 runs off Mohit’s delivery. Shimron Hetmyer hit two maximums in the last over, bringing his team’s total to 196/3 in 20 overs.
