Punjab Kings defeated Chennai by 4 wickets in a last-ball thriller at Chennai

Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets with three balls to spare in the 41st match of IPL 2023, the first of a doubleheader on Sunday. The game was held in Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. After winning the toss, MS Dhoni chose to bat first. CSK reached 200/4 in 20 overs thanks to Devon Conway’s 92* run knock. In response, PBKS successfully chased down the target on the final ball. On the last ball, three runs were necessary, which they accomplished by running. PBKS is also the first team to attempt a 200+ score at this location.

They enjoyed an outstanding start in their pursuit of a gigantic target of 201, collecting 46 runs in only 4 overs without losing any wickets. However, the regular wicket-taking thereafter hampered their chase. Shikhar Dhawan, the opener and captain, scored 28 runs off 15 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh contributed 42 runs in 24 balls.

Atharva Taide had a bad day, scoring 13 runs in 17 balls. Meanwhile, Liam Livingstone gave the team hope by hitting three sixes and a boundary in a single over before being dismissed for 40 runs off 24 balls. Sam Curran got 29 points on 20 attempts. In the end, Jitesh Sharma hit 21 off 10 balls, while Sikandar Raa hammered 13* off 7 balls to win the match for his team. Tushar Deshpande took three wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja took two. Pathirana also got a wicket.

CSK won the toss and chose to bat first in the game. Opener Devon Conway lit up the stadium with a 92* off 52 balls, including 16 boundaries and a maximum. Ruturaj Gaikwad also contributed with an important 37-run knock in 31 balls. With 28 runs off 17 balls, Shivam Dube bolstered the middle order.

Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja couldn’t contribute much in the end, scoring only 10 and 12 runs, respectively. MS Dhoni stepped in for the last over and did his job, smashing two sixes on the last two balls to score 13* off four balls. Arshdeep, Sam Curran, Raza, and Rahul Chahar each took one wicket.
