Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB’s chief executive, stated that the board was in final talks with a contender to become Pakistan’s head coach.

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has chosen to restructure the national selection committee to offer it more freedom and responsibility in appointing captains and teams. “I don’t want to be engaged in picking the captain and team. “I will revamp the national selection committee and give it more authority and independence to make cricket-related decisions,” PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said at a press conference here on Monday.

“After consulting with the team’s head coach, the new selection committee will recommend the captain and the team. I want the selection committee, coach, and captain to be free to make the selections they believe are best for the Pakistan squad.

“My job is to govern and administrate the board affairs properly to facilitate the players,” she said.

According to Naqvi, the board was in final talks with a candidate to take over as Pakistan’s head coach.

“Our team is talking to this person and I don’t want to take his name before everything is finalized,” he added.

“Shane Watson was also under discussion with us, and he declined the offer partly due to numerous untrue leaks that appeared in the media.” According to Naqvi, his goal is to enhance the current domestic cricket system and create a framework that would allow gifted players to be identified at an early age, given opportunities to play, and developed for the future.

“As far as the Pakistan team is concerned I am okay if we win some or lose some but everyone just wants to see 100 percent commitment and the players giving their best on the field,” stated the coach.

The national selection committee is led by Wahab Riaz, a former Test bowler, and comprises Kamran Akmal, Tauseef Ahmed, Rao Iftikhar, and a few more former test players.

Wahab has a lot of trust from the PCB chief, thus it is likely that he would either keep his position as top selector or get promoted. Together, the two had served in the Punjabi administration during Naqvi’s tenure as acting chief minister.
