Lasith Malinga Applauds Sri Lanka Women’s Team For Historic Series Win In England

The decisive seven-wicket win over Heather Knight’s team in the third T20I in Derby was what helped the team win the historic 2-1 series victory.

On Thursday, the legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga congratulated the national senior women’s team on their historic series victory in England. On Wednesday, the Sri Lankan women’s team won their first-ever series against England in any format, making history. The decisive seven-wicket victory over Heather Knight’s team in the third T20I in Derby secured the historic 2-1 series victory. Malinga praised the team led by Chamari Athapaththu for their morale in a tweet.

“Congratulations to the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket team on their historic series victory over England.” It’s even more special because they’re doing it in their own backyard. “The character Chamari and her team have shown over the last year is promising and will do wonders for the Women’s game in SL,” Malinga tweeted.

In the match, England was swept out for 116 runs in 19 overs, with Maia Bouchier (23), Danielle Gibson (21) and wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones (20) helping England salvage face.
Seven of England’s wickets fell to spin spinners, including SL skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who gave an all-round masterclass with a 28-ball 44 and a spell of 3/21. Kavisha Dilhari and Udeshika Prabodhani finished with figures of 2/16 each.

This performance aroused concerns about England’s inability to play spin, as they were defeated by Sri Lanka in the second T20I in the same manner.

The chase was led by Athapaththu (44 in 28 balls, five fours, and two sixes) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (26 in 28 balls, one four).
