The 42-year-old destroyed Anrich Nortje for 20 runs in the last over, including two sixes, during his rapid-fire knock. As a result, Dhoni became the first player to hit 100 sixes in an innings in the 19th and 20th over. Kieron Pollard, the next-best player, is ranked 57.

The IPL batting competition is growing every minute. Balls-per-six ratios (Bp6) of 16.20 and 15.33 were achieved by 1062 and 1120 sixes, respectively, in 2022 and 2023 after the 10-team format was reinstated.

At a startling pace of one every 12.59 balls, 299 sixes have been hit in 16 matches in the IPL 2024 season. To put things in perspective, the tournament might almost see 1350 sixes if the season sees at least 17000 deliveries, as in the past two seasons!

In the last week, batsmen have kept smashing records and sixes, while a handful of bowlers have pulled off some absurd feats.

During Chennai Super Kings’ match against Delhi Capitals, MS Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper to register 300 T20 dismissals. Since making his debut in the format in 2006, Dhoni has pouched 213 catches and caused 87 stumpings.

In addition, Dhoni became the third player overall, behind Quinton de Kock and Jos Buttler, and the first Indian wicketkeeper to reach 7000 T20 runs. In the last over, the 42-year-old struck two sixes and quickly overran Anrich Nortje for 20 runs. As a result, in the 19th and 20th over of an innings, Dhoni became the first player to hit 100 sixes. At fifty-seven, Kieron Pollard is the next greatest!
