Yuzvendra Chahal broke Dwayne Bravo’s elite IPL record in match No.56 between RR and KKR.
Senior spinner Yuzvendra Chahal put another feather to his legendary T20 cap during Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) away game against two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, rewriting history in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The RR spinner took the crucial wicket of Nitish Rana, surpassing veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. With the stunning breakthrough, Chahal also became the IPL’s all-time highest wicket-taker.
Spin maestro Chahal, one of the best bowlers in IPL history, broke Bravo’s record during the 56th match of the premier league. Chahal had earlier equaled Bravo’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium record with a four-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Chahal continued his excellent run in RR’s current encounter, dismissing KKR skipper Rana to surpass Bravo on the IPL wicket-takers table.
In the tenth over, skipper Samson introduced Chahal into the attack. Chahal dismissed Rana in his first over and became the first player in IPL history to do it. The IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker with 187 wickets in the famed tournament’s history. Chahal is followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowler Bravo, who has 183 IPL wickets to his name.
On the restricted list, the former West Indies great comes in ahead of seasoned bowlers Piyush Chawla (174), Amit Mishra (172), and Ravichandran Ashwin (171). Chahal, a right-arm leg-spinner, has claimed 18 wickets in the lucrative league’s 2023 season. The 32-year-old has participated in more than 140 games in the lucrative league. In 2013, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RR) star made his IPL debut at Eden Gardens against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Spinner Chahal has played for RCB and Mumbai Indians in addition to RR in the premier T20 tournament.
