I hope to make memories with this team during the following two months: Rohit Sharma

Rohit will have the difficult responsibility of informing at least three of the core group’s 18 members that they won’t be included in the World Cup’s elite 15.

The Indian skipper recognises the enormous expectation that a home World Cup entails, but he wants to shield himself from the outside talk as he embarks on an arduous quest to win the country’s first ICC championship in a decade.

The 36-year-old India captain, who is carrying more than a billion dreams, understands what is at risk in the ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5 in Ahmedabad with England taking on New Zealand.

“It is important to me how I keep myself relaxed and not worry about external factors that play a role, whether positively or negatively.” “I want to shut out everything,” Rohit told PTI in an exclusive interview just before attending the Asia Cup camp in Benglauru.

“I want to get back into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup,” Rohit, who exudes calm even in the most tense situations, remarked.

The same calm could be seen as he explained his point of view in an uncomplicated manner during the interview, similar to the straight face of his bat as he smacks the bowler’s back-drive.

He referred to the previous edition, in which he made 648 runs with a record-breaking five hundreds to win the most runs award, saying, “I was in great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament.”

I felt healthy and had a positive outlook. I have time to do what I want to do, which is bring that back. Trying to remember what I was doing as a cricket player and a person correctly prior to the 2019 World Cup. I want to go back and think about that personally, the skipper remarked.

World Cups and the unpredictable nature of their outcomes can alter a lot of things, but for Rohit, one month of cricket cannot make or break the player that he is.

“A person’s success or failure cannot change him overnight,” he stated.
“I don’t believe a single result or championship can change me as a person.” “I haven’t changed as a person in the last 16 years, and I don’t think anything should,” he remarked.

“The emphasis will be on how I can achieve my goals for myself and my team in the next two months.” “A person cannot change in one or two months.” Rohit has won five IPL titles as Mumbai Indians captain, the Asia Cup as India captain (2018), and led the side to the World Test Championship final as recently as June of this year.

Do you ever consider your 16-year career and your legacy in Indian cricket? Pat answered, “No,” “I don’t give much thought to the kind of legacy I’ll leave behind. People will be able to evaluate and discuss my legacy. Not my place to say. Only Virat Kohli, with 46 ODI hundreds, has more than he does (30). Add four T20I tonnes and ten Test hundreds. Over 17,000 international runs is not a bad amount.

“I don’t put a lot of faith in statistics. You should attempt to live in that kind of moment, be content, and take pleasure in the time you have right now. I’m thinking about what makes me happy,” he continued.

“For me, it’s crucial about making memories and building a strong relationship with my teammates. Enjoy what you receive and possess.
