In a 41-minute match, the Indian pair lost against Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min of China, 21-16, 21-14.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost in the quarterfinals of the German Open badminton competition on Friday, bringing India’s challenge to an end. In the last eight matches, the Indian duo lost to China’s Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min 21-16, 21-14 in 41 minutes. In the first game against the world’s 22nd ranked pair, India led 8-5, but China rallied and went into the break with a small 11-10 edge.

In the first game, the Indians recovered from a 15–14 deficit, but they dropped points at critical junctures. The Chinese duo then went on to dominate the second game as well, going up 12-6 at one point and winning that one as well, earning a victory and a trip to the semifinals.

Jolly-Gopichand previously lost in the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open in February. They began the year with a first-round loss at the India Open, but were an important component of the Indian women’s team that won the historic gold medal in the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships in Busan last month.

The German Open 2024 is the sixth tournament of the 2024 season, and the shuttlers will compete for qualifying ranking points to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Indian badminton players will compete at the French Open BWF Super 750 in Paris next week.

The names that had previously been eliminated from the competition included Aakarshi Kashyap, who was defeated in the round of 16.
