India head coach Gautam Gambhir said that the country is still ‘obsessed’ with hitters despite the success of bowlers like as Jasprit Bumrah.

Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of Team India, spoke to reporters in his usual frank manner. When the issue of Japsprit Bumrah came up, Gambhir expressed his excitement at the recognition a fast bowler is receiving in India, where batters are traditionally revered more than bowlers. Bumrah has clearly ascended through the ranks of Indian cricket’s superstars, as Ravichandran Ashwin recently labeled him the team’s current ‘Most Valuable Player’. Gambhir didn’t hold back in calling the country a ‘batting obsessive nation’. During the press conference, Gambhir congratulated Bangladesh on their gallant 2-0 victory over Pakistan in the just finished Test series.

“Across all formats, Jasprit Bumrah is the world’s greatest fast bowler. Bumrah, who has the ability to alter the course of the game at any moment, is a valuable addition to the locker room, the player commented.

Not just Bumrah, but Gambhir also gave credit to R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for transforming the public’s opinion of bowlers.

India is a country that loves to bat. However, that is about to change thanks to Bumrah, Ashwin, and Jadeja. When it comes to Test cricket, Bumrah is intelligent. It’s excellent that these individuals are bucking the pattern,” remarked Gambhir. The next match pitted the Indian squad against Bangladesh, a side who surprised Pakistan by winning both Test matches. Gambhir praised the opposition for their accomplishment and warned the hosts to be on their game from the first ball.

“I really believe that we should respect everyone instead of being afraid of them. Bangladesh is in the same situation. We play the game we know and don’t look at the opposition,” he claims.Gambhir has had average results as India’s head coach in T20Is and ODIs so far. But, now he embarks upon a new adventure in Test cricket, a format he favours the most.
“I applaud them for what they did in Pakistan. But this is a new series, they are a fantastic team, and we want to perform well. Yes, they have experience in Shakib, Mushfiqur, and Mehidy, but we want to be ready from the start.”

Gambhir has had middling results as India’s T20I and ODI head coach thus far. But now he’s embarking on a new adventure in Test cricket, his favourite format.
