Clearly, he is reading social media.

Virat Kohli has been dominating news since his scathing response to his detractors who were dissatisfied with his approach and strike rate while batting in the ongoing IPL 2024. Kohli is presently one of the leading run scorers in this year’s competition, but it has not stopped him from receiving frequent criticism, and questions have even been raised over his likely inclusion in India’s squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory over the Gujarat Titans, Kohli spoke out about the criticism, saying he is unconcerned about it. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull responded to Kohli’s reply on Cricbuzz, saying he shouldn’t be concerned about social media.

Virat Kohli has been making news after responding brutally to his detractors who were dissatisfied with his batting approach and strike rate during the ongoing IPL 2024. Kohli is currently one of the highest run-scorers in this year’s competition but that has not saved him from constant criticism and questions were even asked about his possible inclusion in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s win over the Gujarat Titans, Kohli addressed the criticism and stated that he is unconcerned about it. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull reacted to Kohli’s reaction on Cricbuzz and said that he should not be bothered about social media.

“Why is he bothering? I mean, truly, the guy is an excellent player. Why is he bothering to read the nonsense that some people write, or why are people reading it and informing him? I don’t comprehend that. I just look at what he has done. Why bother reading social media and attempting to make a point about it in interviews? Doull remarked, “If he’s reading social media, he should be doing something else.”

“It’s interesting that he (Kohli) goes back to these things since they won’t ask him. Are you looking for your strike rate? These will not be the questions. Clearly, he is reading social media, or someone is reading all of the social media posts about him. He (Kohli) does this frequently in post-match presentations when he has a point to make about something written about him,” he said.

Earlier, Kohli stated that winning the game is more important than keeping a specific strike rate.

“Not much; all the people who talk about strike rates and my poor spin performance are the ones who bring this up. For me, it’s about winning games for the team, and there’s a reason why you’ve done it for 15 years. You’ve done it day in and day out, and you’ve won games for your teams. I’m not sure if you’ve ever been in that scenario before, to sit and chat about the game in the box. People may talk about their assumptions all day, but those who have done it all day know what’s going on, and it’s become a type of muscle memory for me,” Kohli said following the match.
