Wrestler Vinesh Phogat will miss the 2023 Asian Games owing to a knee injury. She announced her choice on X in a post. Vinesh, a former World Championship medalist and one of the most visible faces of the wrestlers’ protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was previously granted direct admittance into the continental extravaganza alongside Bajran Punia by an ad hoc panel. This sparked a tremendous debate, with several young wrestlers pointing out that this was not the proper approach. However, it has now been confirmed that Vinesh will not be present at the Hangzhou event, which begins on September 23.

“I wanted to share some very sad news.” I hurt my left knee in training a few days ago, on August 13th, 2023. “After performing scans and examinations, the doctor informed me that surgery is the only option for my recovery,” she stated.

“I will have surgery on the 17th of August in Mumbai.” It was my desire to defend the Asian Games gold medal I won for India in Jakarta in 2018. But, sadly, my participation is now ruled out due to an injury.” She also stated that she had notified the relevant authorities in order for the reserve player to be sent to the Asian Games.

Vinesh’s departure now makes room for Antim Panghal to join the squad. Panghal, the U-20 world champion, won the trials and was placed on standby.
“I would like to ask all of my fans to continue supporting me so that I can make a strong comeback on the mat soon and prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympics.” “Your help has given me a slot of strength,” Vinesh wrote.
