Glenn Maxwell of Australia has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 series against South Africa due to a minor ankle ailment.
Cricket Australia revealed on Monday afternoon that Maxwell had experienced a mild aggravation to his left ankle during the team’s first training session in Durban.
The 34-year-old Victorian was already slated to miss the ODI series against South Africa due to paternity leave having being out for several months last summer after fracturing his fibula.
For the T20 portion of the tour, Australia will play missing Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Cameron Green, David Warner, and Maxwell.
National selection Tony Dodemaide said in a statement that “we are taking a precautionary approach” because Glenn was already scheduled to return home the following week.
We’ll keep an eye on Glenn’s progress so he can play in the three-match ODI series against India leading up to the World Cup.
