Due to an injury, Shreyas Iyer missed the 2023 Indian Premier League and arrived in the KKR camp with a back ailment.

Vice captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Nitish Rana, is optimistic that team leader and star batsman Shreyas Iyer may overcome his injury concerns in time for the 2024 IPL. Iyer, who was injured and missed the 2023 Indian Premier League, brought a back ailment to the KKR camp. There have been speculations that Iyer, who is expected to lead KKR, may miss the opening few games. In Iyer’s place, Rana took the KKR team by storm. But despite placing eighth in the standings, the two-time winners were unable to go to the postseason.

Regarding Iyer’s fitness issue, Rana expressed hope that the star batter will be able to lead the club throughout the season.

“Shreyas is back with the team and in good shape. Of course, he has had fitness concerns in the past, and we should not take anything for granted. I hope I do not have to take on this role again, as we are hopeful Shreyas will lead in all of the matches. Nonetheless, I am prepared to wear the captain’s band again if necessary. Last year, I was named captain, which was a huge accomplishment for me. Although we did not get all we wanted, it was the most memorable event for me,” Rana told the news sources.

Rana disclosed that although KKR finished eighth in the previous season, there is genuine hope among the team that they can win the championship twice.
“You can sense the wonderful energy in the dressing room this time around from our crew. There’s a will to win that wasn’t there the previous year. “Everyone’s focus is on the trophy,” he continued.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL 2024 squad: Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shreyas Iyer, Phil Salt, Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, KS Bharat, Chetan Sakariya, Mitchell Starc, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ramandeep Singh, Sherfane Rutherford, Manish Pandey, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Dushmantha Chameera, Sakib Hussain.
