For the second time in the 2024 season, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been punished for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday resulted in a punishment for DC captain Rishabh Pant for keeping a sluggish over-rate. At the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, the Delhi-based team was crushed by the Knight Riders, 106 runs to the none. With two points after the defeat, DC was ranked ninth in the IPL 2024 standings.

The DC captain was fined, the IPL said in a statement, since his team’s over rate against Kolkata remained slow.

“Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3,” according to the IPL.

Since it was his team’s second offense of the season in violation of the league’s code of conduct, it was further stated that Pant was fined Rs 24 lakhs.

The statement also stated that other members of the Delhi-based team, including the impact player, had received fines totaling Rs 6 lakhs, or 25% of their individual match fees, in addition to the captain.

Under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offenses, it was his team’s second offense of the season. As a result, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The remaining players in the playing XI, including the impact player, were all fined INR 6 lakhs or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever was lower,” the statement continued.

KKR’s goal of 273 proved to be too much for DC, who succumbed in to the pressure and lost by 106 runs. That is the match summary.

Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora, the speed duo, each took two wickets to cut DC to 33/4 during the powerplay.

With every delivery, DC’s strategy to pursue the enormous total was thwarted by these early knocks.

Ultimately, they lost by 106 runs as the needed rate proved to be too much.
