Lamine Yamal of Barcelona became the league’s youngest-ever goal scorer on Sunday when he scored against Granada.

Lamine Yamal of Barcelona became the league’s youngest-ever goal scorer on Sunday when he scored against Granada. The record was previously held by Fabrice Olinga of Malaga, who scored at the age of 16 years and 98 days in 2012. The Spanish winger broke Olinga’s record with his goal. Just before halftime, Yamal scored from close range to put Barcelona back in the game after they had fallen behind by two goals after Joao Felix had found him.

Yamal’s contract with Barcelona was extended earlier in October to 2026, with a $1.06 billion release clause.

He made his debut for Barcelona against Real Betis in April of last year at the age of 15 years and 290 days.

Yamal went on to become this season’s youngest starter in La Liga and the league’s youngest assist provider in the same time period.

His goal against Georgia in a Euro 2024 qualifier last month made him Spain’s youngest-ever player and goal scorer.
