Australia has a good chance of winning the Border Gavaskar Trophy: Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist believes that the current Australian team is better equipped than any other Australian team since 2004 to beat India at home.

The preparations for the first Border Gavaskar Trophy Test are well underway. Team India and Team Australia will meet on February 9 in Nagpur. As the two sides prepare for the crucial Test series, former Australian great Adam Gilchrist shared his thoughts on Australia’s chances.

The 51-year-old believes that the current Australian team is in a better position to defeat India and win the Border Gavaskar Trophy than any Australian team since 2004. It will be difficult, but Australia is currently the No. 1 Test side, so the upcoming series between World No. 1 and World No. 2, India, will be worth watching.

“It won’t be easy, and it won’t be a walk in the park, but it is their best chance, and I expect them to do exceptionally well. The composition of their squad and the level of experience on the team are critical “The West Australian quoted Gilchrist as saying.

The Australian selection committee is dealing with a number of issues, including the withdrawal of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood from the first Test. Despite these reservations, Gilchrist believes that Australia’s recent trips to the subcontinent will help them prepare for their matches against India.

“They’ve had a number of tours to subcontinental countries to gain and learn from, and that’s what kept us from moving forward in 2004. We were very well planned and prepared because of our previous experiences, both positive and negative, in the subcontinent. This group of players has amassed a wealth of knowledge and skills, giving them a strong chance of victory “Gilchrist went on to say.

Team India will be missing Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant for the series, which could leave them vulnerable and give Australia the upper hand. When the series begins on Thursday, the hosts will be looking to win the Test series for the fourth time in a row.
