The Selection Committee of the Afghanistan Cricket Board has selected a 19-man Afghanistan National Squad for the three-match T20 International Series against India, which gets underway in Mohali, India, on Thursday, January 11.

The roster has been extended to include Afghanistan’s usual T20I captain, Rashid Khan, however he may not play in any matches while he recuperates from recent back surgery.

Ibrahim Zadran, meanwhile, will continue to captain Afghanistan against India after leading it to a 2-1 series win over the UAE in Sharjah.

Entering the game against India, Mujeeb Ur Rahman returns to the side after missing the last three T20I matches against the United Arab Emirates. Recalled to the main squad as the backup wicket-keeper batter, Ikram Alikhil was a member of the reserves against the UAE.

Chairman of the ACB, Mr. Mirwais Ashraf: “We are excited to be heading out on our first tour to India for a three-game series.” Seeing Afghanistan play a three-match T20 International series against India, the top-ranked team in the world, is quite pleasing. Since Afghanistan has performed admirably lately and is no longer the underdog, we anticipate a fiercely competitive series against India.

Afghanistan Squad:

Ibrahim Zadran (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ikram Alikhil (WK), Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, Azmaullah Omarzai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad, Naveen Ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Saleem, Qais Ahmad, Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan.
