Iceland Cricket put together a team of players that were fired, taking a scathing stab at IPL 2025 failures. Rishabh Pant was chosen as the team’s captain.
The teams who will compete in the upcoming round of fixtures are being announced as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 draws to a close. The top four teams, including the Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals, have already been eliminated; the teams with the best chance of making it to the knockout stages are Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Titans. Since the competition began in March, several players have performed exceptionally well, putting on shows that will stick in your memory, but there have also been others that have fallen short.
Stars like Mohammed Shami, Venkatesh Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rishabh Pant, and others were expected to pull strings for their franchises after being purchased for high prices at the mega auction. They haven’t delivered on their promise, though, thus far.
With a team made up of the top “frauds and scammers” from the 18th league season, Iceland Cricket, which is well-known for its humorous social media posts, took a jab at fired stars.
On a rainy day in Reykjavik, Iceland Cricket took a cheeky dig at IPL 2025 underperformers, unveiling their ‘Frauds and Scammers XI’. The satirical squad features names like Ruturaj Tripathi, Ishan Kishan, Glenn Maxwell, and is led by Rishabh Pant as captain and wicketkeeper. Notably, Mayank Kumar was singled out as “No impact player.”
The biggest failure of the season thus far has undoubtedly been Pant, who was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. With an average of just over 12, the wicket-keeper batsman has yet to produce a game-winning knock for his team.
The expectations have also not been met by Rahul Tripathi, Rachin Ravindra, Ishan Kishan, Venkatesh Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, and others.
