Co-owner of the Punjab Kings, Preity Zinta, criticized a “fake quote” that was ascribed to her about Rishabh Pant.

Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, are off to a great start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Both Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were allegedly on Punjab’s wishlist prior to the IPL 2025 auction, but due to circumstances, they were only able to offer for Shreyas. After being cut loose by the Delhi Capitals, Pant was pleased to sign with the Lucknow Super Giants for a record-breaking INR 27 crore. He also appeared relieved not to have been signed by the Punjab team. Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta’s remark went viral on social media after PBKS’s campaign outperformed LSG’s, but it was later shown to be a hoax.Zinta seems to be comparing Iyer with Pant in the comment, referring to the latter as a “big name” and the former as a “big performer.” The Bollywood actress, however, referred to the comment as a hoax on social media.
“We had the option of adding Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant to the team. However, the quotation stated, “We wanted a big performer, not a big name, so we took Shreyas Iyer in the team.”
She said, “I’m so sorry, but this is FAKE NEWS!”

The last few days have seen some incredible victories for Punjab Kings, particularly against Kolkata Knight Riders, where they successfully defended an IPL record of 111. Yuzvendra Chahal was the game’s hero for PBKS. During a YouTube post-match conversation, Preity Zinta was unable to contain her delight at the outcome. “I just wanted to let Chahal know that I’m incredibly happy,” she said. We have previously lost games that we had already won. But we won a match that seemed lost today! Then, Chahal joked, “Given that! (that was past),” which caused Zinta to smile broadly and respond in a kind manner. Indeed! I’m quite pleased about that,” she remarked.
