‘I want to represent the Indian Test team,’ Avesh Khan says of his international comeback.

Avesh stated that he has been working hard to improve his game and hopes to return to the Indian team.

Team India began 2023 with a bang, winning limited-overs series against both Sri Lanka and New Zealand and completely dominating the latter in one-day internationals. Furthermore, in the absence of veterans Kohli and Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Hardik captained the Indian T20I side, leading many to speculate that this would be the start of a new era, a split-captaincy method, for India in the game’s shortest format.

Apart from Kohli and Rohit, there were several other players who were absent from the squad for various reasons. While pace spearhead Bumrah was ruled out due to injury, emerging star Mohammed Siraj was given a well-deserved rest after playing a critical role in India’s ODI victory over New Zealand.

Avesh Khan, on the other hand, had a breakthrough debut for India but has been absent from the squad for a long time. He has fallen out of favour with the team after being forced to miss crucial Asia Cup matches due to illness. He has since failed to make the T20I squad, and his last ODI appearance for the team was against South Africa in October 2022.

Avesh is now seriously considering rejoining the Indian team. He admitted that being sidelined due to illness was disappointing, but he is now hoping to be selected for a Test match, saying:

“I was ruled out twice because I wasn’t feeling well. People may think I overpaid on a few occasions, but in today’s cricket, six out of ten bowlers have a bad day. I’m not complaining or making excuses; it’s just the truth. I’ve forgotten everything and am now living in the present. It will happen when selection occurs. I have control over performance, but not over selection. As a result, I’ve stopped thinking about it.”
